Atletico Madrid ready to wait until summer to sign Chelsea star for free

Chelsea have a few contract extensions to dish out in the coming months and more important on their list will be their players whose deals end next summer, including Cesc Fabregas.

The central midfielder is only six months away from ending his four-year stay at Stamford Bridge and as the situation looks at the club, the top brass want to offer him a short-term deal instead of the longer commitment he is requesting. A club policy to award players over 30 years a one-year contract still holds and it may be difficult that will be changed for the Spain international.

According to Calciomercato, Fabregas who is on AC Milan’s radar is attracting top interest from Atletico and the La Liga giants are willing to make a move for him January or wait out for a summer transfer when he becomes a free agent.

Fabregas is struggling to break into Chelsea’s starting line up under Maurizio Sarri who prefers Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and one of Ross Barkley and Mateo Kovacic in three-man midfield.
