£45m deal for Barcelona player would be madness for Chelsea

The rumours that Chelsea are interested in Barcelona attacker Denis Suarez are growing stronger, with the Sun actually putting a price on the deal now: £45m.

They say that we are “winning the battle” for a January transfer for the midfielder, but there are several reasons to think that this is not true, or at the very least a poor plan for Chelsea.

Firstly the price is very high. £45m for a player who has barely played for a couple of seasons and has never really established himself at the top level is obscene.

Secondly, we are already strong in his position. We have N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Cesc Fabregas already competing for midfield minutes, to say nothing of Danny Drinwkater.

24 year old Suarez definitely has talent, but right now there are parts of the team in more desperate need of regeneration, and signing him would be a real distortion of our priorities when we’re desperately short of a striker, for example.
