“A quality player, fast and technically gifted” – Sarri gives his take on the striker stealing the headlines

Maurizio Sarri has leapt to the defence of his main striker Alvaro Morata, saying that the forward’s bad form has been overstated.

The Chelsea boss has had plenty of chances to talk to the media in the last week with the international break taking over, and this time he took the chance to boost the spirits of Morata, who had two horrific misses with his country this week to compound his guttering confidence.

In quotes carried by the Daily Mirror, Sarri said the following about his Spanish charge:

“Morata is a quality player, fast and technically gifted. He’s a sensible person and the difficulties had hurt him.”

Of course you couldn’t expect Sarri to say anything else – he knows that for better or for worse he will be relying on the former Real Madrid man to lead the line against Tottenham this weekend. The last thing he needed was what happened this week – two horror misses for the forward.

Let’s hope that these comments go some way to cheering him up a little.
