Player Ratings: Chelsea drag out dire win over BATE

Chelsea beat BATE Borisov in a dreadful game in Minsk, which we almost let slip from our grasp several times.

The presence of several first team players did nothing to help the lack of energy and chemistry in this team. The defenders looked shaky, the midfielders didn’t weren’t able to supply the forwards in dangerous areas, and the forward weren’t able to create chances.

In the end only really Olivier Giroud emerges with much credit, for scoring the one chance that really fell to him, and perhaps Emerson for providing the cross – although he still looks shaky defensively.

Even Eden Hazard, back from a couple of weeks off, looked rusty and weak even against this fairly feeble opposition. If it wasn’t for Kepa, we would have conceded at least once, so he gets a 7 too.

Here’s how we rated them:

Kepa: 7

Zappacosta: 6

Cahill: 5

Christensen: 5

Emerson: 6

Barkley: 6

Jorginho: 6

Loftus-Cheek: 5

Pedro: 5

Hazard: 6

Giroud: 7
