Mateo Kovacic hasn’t been a Chelsea player for very long, but he’s already getting the idea – make fun of Liverpool as much as possible.
The midfielder is on loan from Real Madrid, but he’s already figured out that the best way to make himself popular with his new fans is to take shots at our rivals – and the Reds are right up there with at the moment.
Kovacic doesn’t think they’ll win the league though. Why? Because they have Dejan Lovren in their team.
“Liverpool will not be English champions. Why? Because they have Dejan Lovren,” run his quotes as carried on Joe.ie.
Now that would be a pretty harsh joke whatever the context – but remember that the pair are currently together on national team duty.
Presumably that means they’re mates and it’s all in good spirit – but still. Can you imagine Jordan Henderson saying something similar about Chris Smalling? I don’t think English players have enough of a sense of humour for that.
