“I am going to fight” – Struggling Chelsea forward insists he’s not looking for January move

Olivier Giroud is having a weird year.

12 months ago he was still playing for Arsenal, but gradually losing minutes to Alexandre Lacazette.

The arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January precipitated his exit, and he moved to Chelsea where he played an important role replacing Alvaro Morata, as he fell into his dreadful slump.

Giroud then had a great World Cup with France – although without any goals.

When we didn’t sign a striker this summer it looked as though OG would be out main man this season, but instead his inability to find the net has meant a constant battle with Alvaro Morata for minutes.

He’s not happy about the situation, but speaking to Sky Sports, the Frenchman insisted that he hasn’t given up on taking back the undisputed starter slot he had at the tail end of last season:

“I am a competitor and I would like more playing time. But I am in a very big club, with very big players,” Giroud bristled.

“I am going to fight and for the moment, it is not a question about seeking a departure. I am going to stick in there and do not expect me to give up,” he continued.

This guy won a World Cup just a few months ago and people are already asking him whether he needs to leave Chelsea to keep his place in the France team. At 32, maybe he’s got bigger concerns?
