“Every day…he was telling me that Chelsea was the best club for me” – Eden Hazard reveals which former Chelsea star convinced him to join the Blues

Joe Cole kept working for Chelsea, unofficially though, after leaving the club in 2010 and produced one of the best results an ambassador can achieve according to superstar Eden Hazard.

Chelsea stole a march on signing the Belgium international in the summer of 2012 when Roman Abramovich was reported to have driven the purchase personally to send a statement of intent to other rivals in the Premier League. Although the Blues lagged 25 points behind Manchester City and Man United the season prior, Hazard opted to sign for the Stamford Bridge side.

In his announcement on Twitter that summer, Hazard revealed he was joining the ‘Champions of Europe’ but it may not have been the new trophy in Chelsea’s cabinet that swayed him. It was the workings of a former star in France that did the trick.

Hazard reveals Joe Cole kept speaking with him when he declared his availability, to join Chelsea to win trophies every season.

“I spoke to him before I signed for Chelsea. Every day, seriously, he was telling me that Chelsea was the best club for me. He said Chelsea was a big club where you can win trophies every season. For that reason I signed, so thank you, Joe Cole!”
