Didier Deschamps gives amazing in depth answer on N’Golo Kante position change

France coach Didier Deschamps has made some interesting comments about N’Golo Kante’s position in the Chelsea team.

The midfielder has joined up with his national team for the two week spell away from club football, and inevitably French journos were curious to get the manager’s, a former Chelsea midfielder himself, take on the changes to Kante’s game this season.

The answer DD gave was actually very full and very interesting. He’s clearly been watching a lot of Chelsea games this season. The Metro have these quotes:

“He is able (to play higher up the pitch). He can also play deeper where he is very useful and very powerful. ‘At Chelsea he’s in more of a creative role. With what his coach asks him, and his system, he is brought to play very high.”

Overall, he seems well in favour of Kante playing higher up the pitch under Sarri, and while it doesn’t sound like it’s something that will be happening anytime soon for the national team, he’s still developing skills and versatility that will come in handy for Deschamps in the future.
