Chelsea star loses national team place despite sparkling form

Marcos Alonso has been dropped by Spain manager Luis Enrique for his latest squad.

The Asturian manager of the national side announced his 24 man squad for the upcoming international break, and despite having been included in the last couple, Alonso misses out for the games against Croatia and Bosnia.

To be fair to Alonso, there’s some pretty extreme competition out there, with Jose Gaya of Valencia and Jordi Alba also putting their names in contention for the left back slot in the team.

In the end, our man was never going to be able to beat our the best left back in the world to that starting slot, but at least he has now been recognised with some caps, and will be able to look his father and grandfather, who also appeared for La Roja, in the eye proudly.

We’re sure he’ll be back in the mix soon enough. For now, he can enjoy a nice rest.
