Chelsea reject approach from Barcelona for want-away center back

One thing is for sure. Chelsea should brace themselves for bids from European clubs in January or next summer for Andreas Christensen after what has been a slow start to the season under Maurizio Sarri.

The Italian head coach prefers four defenders at the back instead of the three-man central defense Antonio Conte introduced in 2016. Sarri’s system means only two center backs have been deployed and has gone often with Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz in the Premier League. Gary Cahill and Christensen have been sidelined and reports have been widespread that both players will seek moves out of the club in the coming transfer windows.

According to the Mirror, Chelsea have already rejected an offer from a top club. Barcelona want a replacement for Samuel Umtiti who is expected to go under the knife after suffering a knee injury during the summer.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has rejected the approach from Barcelona and according to the report by the Mirror, the Blues top hierarchy will attempt to impress on Sarri to make use of the Dane international a lot more this season to avoid a scramble for his signature next summer.
