“The average points of City and Liverpool is very high” – Sarri reflects on Chelsea’s Premier League chances after draw with Everton

Chelsea picked a single point from their game against Everton on Sunday but remained third in the Premier League standings behind Liverpool and Manchester City.

Table toppers Man City, beat their city rivals Manchester United 3-1 at the Etihad stadium after Chelsea’s stalemate with Everton to stretch the gap at the top by four points. Liverpool had also beaten Fulham 2-0 courtesy goals of  Mohamed Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Chelsea could regret not winning games like these after Man United’s drop of points and Arsenal failing to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates when just a few points separate sides at the business end of the season.

Maurizio Sarri has quickly established his side’s chances this season, insisting Chelsea would have to outdo themselves to get closer to the top two in England currently.

The Italian says the form of Liverpool, and Man City in particular, makes it difficult to catch up with them in the title race:

“I don’t think so. The average points of City and Liverpool is very high. It is very difficult to stay close to these teams. I think that, during a championship like the Premier League, this can happen to any team, a match like this.”
