Antonio Conte’s latest decision on Real Madrid job means Chelsea may have to pay up after all

Chelsea’s hierarchy, and the fans, were hoping that Antonio Conte would take the Real Madrid job.

The Italian coach is still under contract at Chelsea, and is gradually earning his wage for the year.

Chelsea don’t want to pay him, and he doesn’t want to give up his legitimate claim on the cash.

Him moving to Real Madrid would have solved both of their problems. He would have to have given up on his payoff to take the job at the Bernabeu, meaning Chelsea were in the clear.

But it appears now he won’t be moving to the Spanish capital – not until the summer at the very least, by which time his deal at Stamford Bridge will be over.

The Premier League winning coach is probably going to be able to have his cake and eat it. Santi Solari has won four from four, earning him the job for now. He seems safe – but people have lost jobs in less time in the Spanish capital.
