Alvaro Morata bungles another chance to impress for Spain

Alvaro Morata was given a huge boost by the appointment of Luis Enrique as Spain manager, as he was given a slightly unexpected new lease of life in the national team.

The poor form and injuries of Diego Costa and Rodrigo have helped, and mean that despite some pretty iffy form for his club and his country this year, he’s still getting chances.

What he has made of those chances was pretty dire. A tragic miss in both of this break’s games mean another wasted opportunity to recapture some of the early promise of his career.

A few goals against some weaker sides for us in recent weeks lead to raised hopes about his form, but at times like this he looks as mentally shot as ever.

We’ll need him to do a lot better against Spurs if we’re to come away with anything from that game. Unless Maurizio Sarri decides it’s time to give Olivier Giroud another shot.
