Why West Ham’s interest in Chelsea defender makes sense for both sides

West Ham are interested in a January move for Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, who has seen limited minutes under Maurizio Sarri this season.

The interest, as reported here by WhoScored, does make perfect sense for both parties.

West Ham want good players, they want experienced Premier League quality, plus the dash of star power associated with someone coming from a top 6 club. They can get Cahill at a fair price in January and really boost their aspirations this season.

From Cahill’s perspective, West Ham are an upwardly mobile club with plenty of top players and money to give him a weighty contract. He will be able to stay living where he is now, and remain in contention for England games playing regularly.

Chelsea’s return to a back 4 has left them with a spare centre back in reality, and if Andreas Christensen is to get the minutes he wants then Cahill should probably be moved on in January.
