Roberto Martinez gives his opinion on Eden Hazard’s Real Madrid move

Roberto Martinez has the pleasure of managing Eden Hazard at international level, but it was on the subject of his club career that the Spaniard was speaking this week.

The former Wigan and Everton boss was talking about Hazard’s club future, and the interest in a move to Real Madrid that has pretty much been confirmed by all sides at this point.

He said a move this summer was impossible, and so it proved to be. CalcioMercato have his words on the matter:

“Chelsea want to win titles, not sell players.” the Belgium manager said. “It’s going to be difficult to see them sell Hazard in the near future.”

There’s not too much wiggle room there then, but the idea that Chelsea want to win rather than make money has sometimes been in doubt in recent season.

The fortitude they showed to stand up to the player and to Real Madrid was really impressive. It’s not easy to stand up to someone who is putting that many tens of millions on the table, but Chelsea clearly still believe in this project and this team’s ability to win something if it keeps hold of its good players.
