The possible transfer connection Brighton have with Chelsea wonderkid

Reece James’ good performances for Wigan in the Championship have lead to Premier League interest in the Chelsea youth product.

The Sun are reporting that the Seagulls want the defender to replace their ageing stalwart Bruno.

Brighton have recently appointed Dan Ashworth as their director of football, and he has close connections with the youngster from the England Youth setup where he was working previously.

James has always been considered an incredible prospect at Chelsea, and it’s hard to imagine any offer being accepted for him just as he’s starting to blossom.

What would be ideal for us would be to send Reece on loan to Brighton, or at least sell him with a reasonable buyback clause. That way they could benefit from him for the next couple of years, and we could bring him back to play in the first team in 2 or 3 years.

The Sun suggest such a clause in their piece, but only as speculation rather than claiming it to be the case.
