Why Olivier Giroud calls Chelsea the ‘top club in England’ despite staying at Arsenal for six years

Among the very best in the Premier League, Chelsea are the ‘top club in England’ according to Olivier Giroud who signed for the Blues only last January.

It is no surprise that Giroud, a striker of Chelsea will call his own club the very best in the Premier League but the fact that he spent six years at Arsenal before joining the Blues in January 2018, makes his comments very hard to take by some Gunners fans.

“It did not go as far as we could say. There was really a contact [from Marseille] last year, but nothing really concrete this summer.

I had just arrived at Chelsea, it was not the time to pack my bags again three months later. For me, Chelsea is the top club in England, the one that has won the most titles over the last ten years. I am where I wanted to be. So why leave?”

The Frenchman had enjoyed a very good relationship with his former fans but will risk hitting the rocks with that public admission of his belief that his current side edges his former. In truth, Chelsea are the most decorated side in the Premier League since Roman Abramovich took over in 2003 having won over 15 major trophies.

But the Blues sunk very low last season winning only the FA Cup and placing outside Champions League places. This season, however, Sarri’s side have their groove on and are dealing very well with the opponents they have faced so far in the title race.

If Giroud continues to help Chelsea win more trophies including the Premier League which he never won at Arsenal, he might be well on course to confirm his assertion of Chelsea being the very best.
