Like an endangered butterfly, Victor Moses thrived in an ecosystem that has been destroyed

Victor Moses has today been linked with an exit from Chelsea, and it’s hardly surprising.

The Nigerian has barely featured for Maurizio Sarri this season, and he’s not getting any closer to the first team. It will be a better move for him, and for the club, if he’s allowed to move on.

It’s a spectacular fall from grace for the man who was first choice right wing back as recently as last spring.

For a long time before then he was a Chelsea outcast, and he was only introduced to the team as an experiment at right wing back.

Moses never had the quality in the final third to be a proper Chelsea winger, but the wing back role was perfect for him. After years on the sidelines and on loan, for two seasons he shone at the Bridge there.

But now Maurizio Sarri has arrived at the club and changed to four at the back, there’s simply no room for him. The special niche that suited him perfectly no longer exists, and now Victor must flutter away to find a new home.
