Jose Mourinho and Chelsea need to sort out the burnt bridges before it gets nasty

You would think when Chelsea fans see Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge after his two successful spells, they would hail him, but the return of their former manager has recently been a show of bad blood.

In a space of 11 years, in two stints with the Blues, Mourinho won three Premier League titles and several other domestic cups and his position as a legend at the club means he must be respected more than the Blues fans give him at the moment. “F**k off Mourinho” was heard in some sections of the Stamford Bridge crowd at some point in the game, and that is absolutely classless by those fans involved. Mourinho deserves better from Chelsea fans than almost any other club he has worked for.

Where and how did he go wrong? Joining Manchester United perhaps.

Signing up with a bitter rival of your lover makes you a traitor and perhaps that’s what Chelsea fans cannot get their head wrapped around. But you can’t fault the Portuguese manager. He returned even after being sacked in 2007 and was again sacked after a disastrous run of form by his side in 2015.

His public spat and shameful outbursts with Antonio Conte last season may not have helped him either, and after the game on Saturday, Mourinho was seen putting three fingers up in the air towards Chelsea fans to remind them of his titles won while at the club.

The thing here is, no one needs a reminder and Jose should know better than to irritate the very section of fans that put his old-time love far beyond his grasps. Actions from both camps have been poor and the drama needs to stop. The respect between Mourinho and Chelsea fans that used to adore him needs restoration but no one can fix that except the two parties involved.
