Why Chelsea will decide whether Man United or Tottenham will sign Nathan Ake from Bournemouth

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are chasing after Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake but Chelsea hold the card on his next transfer after an agreement between the two clubs last summer.

The Netherlands international was sold to the Cherries in the summer of 2017 after he failed to nail down a regular spot under Antonio Conte two seasons ago. This was after he was sent out on loan to Eddie Howe’s side in the 2016/17 season, but the season-long loan deal was cut short in January as the Blues needed cover in the central defensive department.

Chelsea ensured that his sale in the summer will not leave them regretting as they did with several other young players who ended up serving Premier League rivals brilliantly like Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne, and Romelu Lukaku. So the report by the Telegraph says Chelsea had a gentlemen’s agreement with Bournemouth to have the first option to buy back Ake should he be available on the market.

If Chelsea pass him on, then one of Man United or Spurs can have a go at the Dutch star who has begun this season in impeccable form.
