Chelsea are really riding their luck defensively in the Premier League this season, and now we’ve got the data to prove it.
The Blues have been great in attack but a little shaky in defence, and Duncan Alexander from OPTA has the stats.

It backs up what we’ve seen very clearly in the last few weeks – Chelsea have allowed more than three time as many big chances to the opposition as Man City, yet conceded fewer goals.
Probably half of those chances came in the home match against Arsenal last month. The Gunners somehow managed to sky about four easy chances over the bar from a few yards out, still score two to get back into the game, and still lose to a late Marcos Alonso goal.
We should be happy that we’re getting away with it – but we also have to change things rapidly. This luck won’t last forever, and it’s bound to average out soon.
