How Chelsea can copy Real Madrid in earning big money on Manchester United target

The Telegraph are today reporting interest from Manchester United and Tottenham in Nathan Ake, a Bournemouth player.

What does that have to do with Chelsea? Well that’s where the interesting part begins.

Chelsea sold the 23 year old to the Cherries at the start of last season, and he’s been superb for them since. He came through the youth ranks at Cobham, and we only let him go because he wasn’t getting enough game time under Antonio Conte.

Now that the big dogs are circling for the player we sold for £20m, we can potentially activate our trap card.

That same Telegraph article confirms that we have a “gentleman’s agreement” to sign back Ake for £40m. Even if we don’t want him ourselves longer term, we can take a leaf from Real Madrid’s book and buy him back just to sell him on at a profit – as Los Blancos did with Alvaro Morata to us.

It seems unlikely that anyone would spend that much more than £40m on Ake right now, but if he carries on playing like this, it’s a distinct possibility.
