BREAKING: Chelsea legend John Terry retires

John Terry has announced his retirement from football on his Instagram page.

The centre-back, who came through the Chelsea youth academy and captained the club to a clutch of trophies in a decorated career spanning 19 years at the club.

He then spent last season at Aston Villa, who he lead to the playoff final last season.

A deal was almost done to take the defender to Spartak Moscow this summer, but in the end he decided that he didn’t think it was right for him, and he has now decided he will hang up his boots.

His time at Chelsea was littered with glorious performances and trophies, with none surpassing the Champions League win in 2012, which saw him miss the chance to play in the final and undo the pain of the 2008 penalty slip in Moscow.

He was a key man for several Chelsea managers, and will be a mainstay at the club – probably in a managerial role someday – for decades to come.

Thank you John Terry.
