Why BATE Borisov game is vital for the future of two young players at Chelsea

The Manchester United game on Saturday began a run of matches for Chelsea that will go a long way to deciding the course of this season.

A draw at home against the struggling Red Devils isn’t a great result, and we have the right to be a little disappointed with how the team played. But a point is still a point, and it looked like we wouldn’t be getting any.

Up next is a Europa League home tie against Thursday against Bate.

That may not seem like a big deal, but it’s the third group game for us, and if we win that, we can really start to bringing the youth for the remaining three games, with passage to the knockout rounds assured.

That means players like Andreas Christensen and Ruben-Loftus Cheek can expect to feature in all three of the remaining games from the start if we put the group to bed this week.

Combine that with the League Cup game against Derby coming up and you’re actually looking at a decent set of games for those youngsters – so let’s get things done in a professional way on Thursday, then we can look forward to seeing our prospects in action on weeknights up until Christmas.
