Alvaro Morata still talking about dreadful debut season at Chelsea while his equally disappointing second is well underway

Alvaro Morata has been speaking about his torrid debut season in English football, this time with the Daily Mail who have the full quotes on his awful experience last time around:

“I’d like to be happier when I play,” the striker said.

“I need to score more goals in order to be happier. I was really sad a few months ago.

“I wasn’t depressed but I didn’t live my situation very well. People used to love me, I scored seven goals in the first seven games at Chelsea.

“Then I got injured and I was playing even if I was feeling pain. There was lot of tension and I didn’t want to speak to anybody.”

You can’t help feeling sorry for a man who clearly had a lot of personal issues going on, and is perhaps a little more emotionally frail than most footballers. But there are still issues for Chelsea fans here.

Most galling is the way that Morata continually talks about “last season” and refers to his troubles in the past tense. In case he hadn’t noticed, those  issues are still ongoing, and his form hasn’t picked up this season, despite the removal of many of the barriers he points to last season.

Just like with Fernando Torres, we’re all wishing for a turnaround for Alvaro and we’ll cheer it when it comes. He just can’t expect and special treatment before then.
