“I am not able to give him confidence” – Maurizio Sarri reveals the one thing that can get Alvaro Morata scoring again

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has revealed only goals can get Alvaro Morata scoring more of them this season after the striker missed several chances against PAOK.

The Spain international found himself in good goalscoring positions but failed to find the back of the net, and had Willian not scored his goal early in the game, Sarri would have been defending his side’s quality in Europe.

Sarri, though, is not bothered by the profligacy of his top striker and is confident if the former Real Madrid and Juventus forward manages to find two or three goals in succession, he will be able to arrest his poor form and begin scoring again.

“Alvaro has to gain confidence with one, two, three goals. I am not able to give him confidence. In this match he has had three, four opportunities. He was unlucky.

I hope for him that in the future I can try to help him, but the confidence can become only with goals. I have to say also, for maybe the first time in this season Alvaro was ready in the box. He was on the ball and was active.”

Morata has scored only once this season in all competitions, with his only goal coming against Arsenal in the Premier League, a game Chelsea won 3-2.

Against Cardiff, Sarri chose to go with Olivier Giroud and the Frenchman might steal a march on the position again next weekend against West Ham United.
