“We need to improve there” – Maurizio Sarri has revealed which position Chelsea need to improve the most

Chelsea have begun the season in top gear, beating all opponents thrown at them in fluid attacking mode but it is in defense that Maurizio Sarri’s side must improve the most, according to the head coach.

The Blues have won their opening five games of the Premier League season, with the latest win coming against Cardiff last Saturday. But Chelsea did not simply roll over their opponents, particularly at the start of the game. Cardiff took the lead through Sol Bamba and the opening goal came after a couple of dangerous attacks by the newly promoted side.

It looked in the beginning to be one of those frustrating afternoons was on the cards but Eden Hazard stepped up with supreme quality on the ball and tidy finishes to put Chelsea in the lead.

In attack, Sarri seems fine with the composition of players and their quality, but in defense, the Italian believes he still has work to do to get his side to the desired standards.

“I think he is right, because we are very dangerous in the defensive phase, and we need to improve there. But I think we can do it. Only eight players arrived for training at the beginning of the pre-season, so I think it’s normal that in this period we have some defensive problems.

We can cope with the problems with the quality in the offensive phase, but not in the defensive phase. So I have to organise them better defensively and the players have to understand that.”
