Mason Mount reveals how he is developing a new part of his game

Mason Mount has had Frank Lampard comparisons coming out of his ears for a long time now. A young, English, dynamic goalscoring midfielder who looks set to be Chelsea’s future? The comparison makes sense.

The fact that the Chelsea hero is now the wonderkid’s mentor and manager at Derby just adds to that comparison.

But as Mount revealed in a recent interview with the Daily Mail, it’s not just in tallying goals that the youngster wants to be like Frank. He wants to be the full package too:

“Dad always said to me, ‘You have got to do the dirty work'”, the midfielder said.

“He told me you can’t just be good on the ball. You have to track back, you have to make tackles and get stuck in. I always want to introduce that into what I am doing now. I don’t just want to be an attacking player who gets into the box and scores goals. I’ve got to do it all.”

It’s great to see that Mason has had such good work ethic instilled in him from a young age, and clearly that’s gone a long way to helping him become the talent that he is. The important part is that he never loses it. Frank worked harder and harder the better he got, and he didn’t let success slow him down.

Mason’s had a superb start to his career, but if he wants to reach Lampard’s levels, he can’t stop now.
