Loftus-Cheek’s latest injury setback has come at the most unwanted time in the season

Between now and the expected recovery date for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, there would be a few opportunities to have begun his career under new head coach Maurizio Sarri.

The Chelsea coach had promised the minutes would improve for Loftus-Cheek after the international break and for the young player who is beginning to impress his coach in training, this is the last time he should pick up an injury.

Other players lie in wait to take up the chance and may not relinquish the position once they grab it. For example, there was too much Ross Barkley showed in his first two starts to indicate that he is in for the big time this season under Sarri.

His position as one of the three midfielders has been taken by Mateo Kovacic when the Real Madrid player on loan to Chelsea was introduced to the Stamford Bridge crowd against Arsenal in the Premier League.

Now, Chelsea have Cardiff in the league and PAOK in the Champions League, and Sarri is likely to rotate his squad looking at the kind of fixtures that follow. The Blues will take on West Ham United before facing Liverpool twice in the Carabao Cup and the Premier League.

Minutes will be available to most players in the first team, and Loftus-Cheek could have benefited the most from this period to sturdy his Chelsea season.
