Classy Luiz excels in possession as Chelsea beat Bournemouth

David Luiz has had his critics in recent weeks, and the very obvious way he was caught out by Newcastle last Sunday meant he had to deal with days of of debates about whether he should be starting for Chelsea at the moment.

He answered those critics with a very strong performance against Bournemouth. The Blues kept their first clean sheet since the first week of the season, and Luiz was central to that, as well as pushing on forward.

The Brazilian made 3 tackles, 5 clearances and won 3 aerials duels in defence according ot WhoScored, but on the ball also had 101 passes, more than anyone else on his team.

Even Jorginho, who has been breaking records with his numbers, paled in comparison with 80.

The former PSG man also played a team high 14 long balls, with 5 of them finding their mark, one in particular a memorable cross-field effort.

We will face stronger teams in attack this season, but if DL performs like this, we won’t have any problems.
