Chelsea stalwart admits a January move could be on the cards for him after falling far from Sarri’s thoughts

Gary Cahill has admitted that he could leave Chelsea as soon as the next transfer window.

The change in formation from one with three to two has dramatically reduced the opportunities for defenders at the club to get minutes, and Cahill has fallen behind Andreas Christensen and David Luiz in the pecking order, despite winning his place back in the dying days of the Antonio Conte regime.

The centre back was quoted on Goal.com, and there seems to be little doubt in his mind that unless things change dramatically, he needs to leave the club:

“I realise that sometimes you have to make tough decisions and football doesn’t wait for people,” Cahill said after not featuring against PAOK in the Europa League.

“I don’t want to jump the gun but as things stand at this time, probably, yes (I might leave in January).”

That all seems fair. He’s still got a few years left in him at the top level, perhaps not in the Champions League, but plenty of clubs in the top half of the Premier League would love an experienced player like Cahill at the club – especially given he’s likely to be available for a reasonable fee.
