Surprise Chelsea man wins best player award in season opener

After a slow first half, Chelsea grew into the game on Saturday and ended up beating Huddersfield 2-0.

Several Blues impressed, with Jorginho winning the man of the match award given out by Sky, as you can see in Chelsea’s Instagram post below.

Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz also won huge plaudits for a dominant performance at the back.

But according to stats site WhoScored, the outstanding performer was a different man entirely.

They gave the award to Pedro, who was given the nod on the right wing ahead of Willian.

He scored an 8.3, boosted by his well taken goal that sealed the game in the 80th minute.

He had a pass success rate of 84% and ran hard down the flank for the whole time he was on the pitch.

Willian will be ready to start next week against Arsenal, but he’ll struggle to dislodge the Spaniard from the first team.
