Chelsea can soon unveil their third signing of the season if Mateo Kovacic successfully passes his medicals in London as revealed by Goal on Wednesday.
The midfielder is one of many targets Chelsea have gone after this season, but was suddenly favorite to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer, after Real Madrid decided to go heavy in their chase of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
With the goalkeeper set to join the Los Blancos on Thursday as per Kristof Terreur on Twitter, the path has been cleared for Kovacic to join the Blues and is thought to be currently undergoing a medical at the club.

The deal is reported to be a one-year loan deal and has the option to buy permanently next summer.
His arrival will however push Tiemoue Bakayoko further down the pecking order as the Frenchman also inches close to a deal with AC Milan, who also have the option to buy him permanently next summer.
