Callum Hudson-Odoi’s stunning performances have skipped the loan army and put him at the front of the queue for starts

Maurizio Sarri has started Callum Hudson Odoi in all three of his games as Chelsea manager, and you’d be a brave man to bet against him getting another start this Sunday in the Community Shield.

Of course Eden Hazard is still away, but in his absence CHO has been the best player in the team, never mind the best player in the forward line.

Hazard – if he doesn’t leave – will take his place in the first XI when he returns. But who will play on the other side? Pedro has grabbed a couple of goals and has looked sharp, but come the first Premier League game of the season, would you really be that surprised if Callum was starting?

Even if the more experienced Pedro or Willian get the nod, the youngster has put himself front and centre for starts, which is more than we could have hoped for from his preseason.

Thoughts of going on loan are long gone. Forget a squad place – Hudson-Odoi is in the fight for the first team now.
