“I want to meet them face to face” – Maurizio Sarri has an important message for Chelsea’s potential leavers but won’t say it over the phone

Chelsea new manager Maurizio Sarri has lauded the club’s Belgian contingent as ‘top’ players and has asked that he meets them ‘face to face’ to convince them of his plan to work at the club and bring them to their utmost best.

It is an open secret that Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois may want to leave the club this summer as particularly, Hazard said in a sensational interview post World Cup that he may ‘want to try something new’. The club are keen to keep both players, but the lure of Real Madrid may be too strong to resist for some of the players.

Regardless of whatever decision the pair want to make this summer on this respective futures, their new boss wants to meet them in person, and serve them with his plans for the coming seasons, and how integral they are going to be in that.

“I don’t think so. The players you refer to are very high level players. I would like to keep them in my squad. But telephone calls without looking them in the eyes would not give them any certainty.

I want to meet them face to face, talk to them and understand what the best thing will be to do for everyone. I would also like a player to come with me on the pitch for four or five days.”

But will have to wait till a day to the summer transfer window closes, as both players are not due to return to Cobham until early August, after marching straight to Third Place at the just ended World Cup.
