Steve Holland brings Antonio Conte influence to England

Steve Holland was a great loss to Chelsea, there can be no doubt about that.

The former Blues assistant, who was the steady presence in the dressing room through several managers, finally left last summer to go full time with Gareth Southgate and England.

Clearly his effect there has been enormous, and his stock has never been higher as a coach.

But this Tweet makes an interesting comparison between Antonio Conte’s Euro 2016 Italy team and this England side.

It shows that maybe his year under Antonio Conte rubbed off on Holland, who has passed on some of that philosophy to Southgate’s England.

The formation and structure are undeniably similar – even if none of Conte’s XI have made it to the England team.

There are plenty of interesting comparisons, and it’s great to see that there’s at least a shadow of Chelsea influence on a team that otherwise has no players related to Stamford Bridge.
