Italy’s World Cup failure gives Chelsea’s new man one big advantage

Maurizio Sarri has arrived to train his Chelsea team, but he finds himself in a slightly odd position.

Almost all of his best players are still on holiday after the World Cup, and the group he’s working with day to day are youth team players and the players who either aren’t good enough for their national teams or play for national teams that aren’t good enough to get to the World Cup.

There are some exceptions, and one of those is new man Jorginho. He will be one of the first names on the teamsheet under Sarri, and thanks to Italy’s failure to quality he’s at Cobham getting to know his new teammates.

Given Jorginho’s importance to how the team will play, that’s a real stroke of luck. While plenty of the first team will have to adjust quickly once they’re back, the ones who are there now will be well gelled with the team’s new creative hub.
