Reports: Chelsea sack Antonio Conte

Chelsea will sack Antonio Conte at long last, according to the BBC. While nothing has beem announced by the club yet, the players appear to have been briefed, as they are thanking for his time at the club.

After a long summer of speculation culminating in the ridiculous scenes of him taking training while not shown in the club’s coverage of the sessions.

At last the moment has come and the axe has been swung. That indicates that a deal is probably close with Conte’s likely successor Maurizio Sarri.

The question is why that took so long. Clearly they didn’t want to lose the incumbent until until his replacement was ready. But why did the deal for Sarri take so long?

Perhaps it’s just dealing with Aurelio de Laurentiis and Napoli? The club should have known long ago that this would be the case. The month since Carlo Ancelotti was appointed and Sarri made redundant has been wasted if so.

If the delay was caused by the fact that Jorginho was included in the deal, that makes the whole thing a little more understandable.
