CONFIRMED: Chelsea appoint Maurizio Sarri as their new manager

Chelsea have appointed former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri as their new head coach.

The official website confirmed it today, just 24 hours after it was announced Antonio Conte would be departing the club.

It’s a deal that has been a long time coming. The manager has clearly been top of our shortlist for some time, and the moment that Carlo Ancelotti was appointed as his replacement in Naples, it seemed the path was clear for the former Empoli boss to come to Chelsea.

It hasn’t proved to be that easy, and negotiating his release from Napoli, as well as getting Antonio Conte out the door at Chelsea, has taken over a month.

That’s been an immensely frustrating period for Chelsea fans, clearly, but now there will be a flood of movement.

Already we are being linked with Jorginho, Sarri’s key man in Italy. It looks like that deal will be done soon.

Perhaps things are looking up at Stamford Bridge all of a sudden?
