Chelsea’s asking price for Willian confirmed at £70m

A piece in the Evening Standard has claimed that Chelsea are asking £70m for winger Willian.

The article is actually about the delays in appointing Maurizio Sarri, but at the bottom it clearly states “Chelsea are prepared to offload Willian if someone meets their £70million asking price.”

It’s a lot of money, but it’s also understandable why Barca might take a risk on it. Willian is a technically good player with a great work ethic, and he is already showing in Russia that he can link up nicely with Phil Coutinho, their big signing from last season.

From Chelsea’s point of view, it’s no good losing a starting player like that, but on the other hand, the new manager will want money to buy players that fit in his system, and he may see it as a good deal if the Brazilian doesn’t fit with the system he envisages for the team.

Fans are split on the issue, with some keen to see the former Shakhtar man go, and others wanting him to stay put.
