Chelsea’s £89m double swoop closer than ever after Roman himself gets involved

New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is ready to “assault” Serie A for his top transfer targets, according to claims in Italy.

The Daily Mail are among the publications which carry the translated quotes from the Italian press about Chelsea’s renewed attempts on Serie A’s top stars.

The Mail claim that Roman Abramovich himself is in Milan to help secure two deals: one for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, and one for forward Gonzalo Higuain.

They say that Juve have put a £89m asking price for the pair on the table – and that’s not far off what Chelsea would likely be willing to pay.

The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo has meant that previously indispensable players like Higuain suddenly are saleable assets, while Rugani is looking for a move having not been able to break into the first team under Max Allegri.

If the pair are signed, we can expect significant departures from the first team, which looks bloated even without the addition of another two names.
