Chelsea to be taken to court by former manager

Antonio Conte is preparing for a lawsuit against Chelsea, according to reports in British broadsheet the Times.

The Italian coach was finally sacked last week after farcical scenes which saw him return to the training ground to start preseason work with the players before he was finally given the boot.

His case will argue that the club’s insistence on keeping him under contract all summer while knowing they were likely to secure Maurizio Sarri, cost him the chance to pursue other employment options – the jobs at Real Madrid and PSG just a couple of those that changed hands this summer.

The club will no doubt argue that they only asked him to serve out his contract, and couldn’t be certain they’d be able to replace him with a manager of equal quality until the situation with Sarri’s former employers Napoli was resolved.

Once again, we find Chelsea’s conduct getting them in trouble.
