“They must regret it” – Former Chelsea star talks about key player’s departure

Marcel Desailly, former defensive rock at Stamford Bridge, has spoken about the departure of one of the clubs big players last summer.

Diego Costa returned to Atletico Madrid, and while it didn’t seem like there was much the club could do to stop the Spaniard going, Desailly thinks it was a bad deal.

“They must regret it,” said the France international.

He won’t find many Chelsea fans who disagree. The team lacked several things this year, but above all it was the intensity and goals of Costa up front.

The forward was then out for 6 months as Atleti completed their transfer ban, before returning for the second half of the season.

What a difference it would have made to Chelsea to have him firing on all cylinders for another season.

But it was never going to happen. And if we had replaced him better, it wouldn’t have been such a blow.
