Conte closer to the top of Real’s list as Pochettino drops out

Spanish newspaper AS is reporting that Real Madrid have already given up on securing Mauricio Pochettino, meaning that Antonio Conte is closer than ever to the top of their list.

The Argentine has only just signed a new deal at Spurs this week, but the sudden resignation of Zinedine Zidane and Los Blancos‘ interest in Pochettino catapulted him back into the limelight.

It never looked likely they would be able to prise him away from Daniel Levy though, and that appears to have been the case here.

It could be helpful for Chelsea in reality, as Conte may resign in order to take the Real job if it’s offered to him.

That would save the club a huge amount of money – the €8m year left on the Italian’s contract at Stamford Bridge.

The article says that Jogi Low is the top option  for the club from the Spanish capital, followed by Jurgen Klopp, so Conte still has some way to go however.
