Chelsea fans voice opinions on offseason
Chelsea fans have endured a lot of chaos at the club since Roman Abramovich took over in 2003. This offseason could be the most chaotic yet as the club is in the midst of sorting out its managerial problems and playing staff for next term. Blues fans have recently taken to social media in reaction to the club’s current work in the transfer market. A recent Chelsea post on Twitter that recalled Eden Hazard’s signing in 2012, brought out fans in volume. They tweeted the club about signing Hazard to a new contract. Rumours have swirled that Hazard could leave this summer. It is the news fans do not want to hear as the Belgian has been the Blues’ most important player since he arrived.
Why are Chelsea fans so unhappy with the club?
There are more reasons than just Hazard’s rumoured departure that are making Chelsea fans unhappy. The club has been mulling over the sacking of manager Antonio Conte. The Italian has long been rumoured for the sack, but Chelsea have yet to cut ties with him. Fans are just as clueless as media reports continue to be published about managers being interviewed for the coaching role.
Conte is still the manager of Chelsea and wants to be guaranteed his final year’s salary before leaving. Abramovich has baulked at paying the manager £9 million to leave and the sides are currently at an impasse.
Fans are split over which manager they want to take Conte’s place. Former Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri was Chelsea’s top choice. However, Napoli wanted £7m from Chelsea just to sign Sarri. In addition, some Chelsea fans were unhappy with Sarri’s past controversial moments in Italy. The club has moved on in pursuit of a manager, but there is no confirmation on when the search will be concluded.
Chelsea missed out on the Champions League last term. The club will participate in the Europa League, but there have been rumours Chelsea will sell players and rebuild the squad. Fans have reacted negatively to the claims. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. He could join fellow Belgian Hazard on the way out. The two would gain Chelsea sizable transfer fees if sold to another club that could be reinvested.
Blues fans are hopeful both will stay at Chelsea and help the club return to the top of the Premier League. However, the Blues have not given supporters much faith so far this offseason. Chelsea’s players are already voicing their concerns over the way the club is being run. Managerial promises were made by Chelsea’s board, yet those have not been kept. Fans could see players exit the club if things are not sorted soon at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea fans should have had a lot to look forward to this summer. The way the club has handled its manager and transfer business; however, has led to panic from some supporters. There doesn’t look to be an end in sight.
