Rui Faria linked with Chelsea return by ESPN

Rui Faria has just resigned from Jose Mourinho’s staff at Manchester United, effective from the end of this season after the FA Cup final against Chelsea next weekend, as reported here by ESPN.

The Portuguese has been alongside Mourinho throughout his success, including two spells at Stamford Bridge.

With Antonio Conte’s departure all but announced, any available manager is now being liked to some extent with the soon to be vacant role.

That includes Faria – the ESPN article mentions the Blues as a “long shot”, but they are still directly named – along with Arsenal – as a potential destination.

The fact that it’s said he will be taking a “break from football” in the statement makes a move to West London seem pretty unlikely. We’re going to need a new manager in 7 days, and unless he thinks that’s a break, we’ll have to look elsewhere.

If he’s a success elsewhere, it’s certainly possible we’ll see him back at Chelsea one day.
