Real Madrid quoted €60m for Chelsea star, but the Blues can replace him for that money

There’s worrying – although unsurprising – news in today’s copy of Spanish paper AS today claiming that Chelsea’s failure to qualify for the Champions League is going to affect the futures of Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard.

The Belgian pair have just a year left on their deals, meaning this summer is make or break for them. They must either put pen to paper, or the club will have to sell them.

It seems unfair that the players’ own failures on the pitch now make them less likely to stay at the club, but we always knew it would be this way.

AS has Courtois’ price at €60m – pretty cheap for a top class modern goalkeeper, but still decent money for a player with just one year left on their deal. We would be hard pressed to find a better keeper for that money, but we could certainly find someone with the potential one day day be better.
