Chelsea “not being at their best” is definitely an understatement, as they finished the season with a humiliating defeat at Newcastle United confirming their place in the Europa League next season.
The superstars on show at Stamford Bridge the entire season have struggled to impress but a few stand out. Andreas Christensen was a breath of fresh air at Chelsea, Cesar Azpilicueta was as strong as always while Willian showed flashes of brilliance. But it was perhaps N’Golo Kante who stood tall for most part of the season.
The Frenchman has been pivotal to Chelsea even in their struggles and now according to Opta leads the interceptions in the Premier League this season.

A silver lining in Chelsea’s campaign this season, Kante has been reliable when called upon by Antonio Conte. Perhaps the biggest failure this season by Conte was to find a suitable partner for Kante in midfield.
Several players have been tested there bu none impressed for a sustained period, underlining why Kante has become so crucial for Chelsea lately.
