Jorginho “tells friends” that Maurizio Sarri wants him at Chelsea

Transfer season is back, and it’s time to roll our sleeves up and get stuck into the latest round of nonsense being churned out by outlets just like this one all over the world.

The Daily Mail today provides an interesting rarity – an actual quote – although it seems to be a pure fabrication as it doesn’t appear as an actual quote in the text, just in the headline.

The story is that Napoli midfielder Jorginho has told his colleagues in Naples that Maurizio Sarri wants him to come to Chelsea if Sarri goes.

Well that’s hardly surprising – Jorginho is an excellent player and a key man in Sarri’s style of play.

The question is whether Chelsea would be able to buy him. As the piece notes, Manchester City are leading the way for his signature, and given how much spending power they have, Chelsea are unlikely to outbid them.

That would leave it down to the player, and even if he’s keen to play under Sarri again, wouldn’t he rather be playing for Pep and competing for the Champions League?
