Why Ross Barkley could be set for his first appearance since January

Chelsea almost signed Ross Barkley in the summer, only for the midfielder to pull out of the deal at the last minute.

Just imagine what a disaster that would have been. In the end he signed in January, and even that feels like a bad deal for the Blues already.

His long term injury inevitably lead to a series of smaller issues, and he’s still not made an appearance in a Blue shirt since the 31st of January.

But that could be set to change. Antonio Conte’s last important game comes up next weekend, so he will be looking to rotate his team in midweek against Burnley.

This could be the perfect chance for Barkley, who just returned to the bench at the weekend against Southampton, to get some minutes.

After so long out he might not be ready to play from the start, but on the other hand he could get the nod and then be taken off after an hour or so if he’s struggling.

Either way, he would have to play pretty well to even begin to make this transfer look like a good idea.
